About Athena DesignAthena Design, Inc. was founded in 1991 and delivered the world's first spreadsheet components to the NextStep market in 1992 with its Mesa spreadsheet application. Mesa included real-time data feeds, SQL database access, and a set of spreadsheet objects that could be imbedded in any NextStep application. Athena Design's client list includes most of the large NextStep users including Chrysler Financial, the Phibro division of Salomon Brothers, Swiss Bank, BJK&E, LDDS/WilTel, AT&T Wireless, and others. Mesa for NextStep was granted the NeXTWORLD Magazine "Best of Breed" award in 1993. In 1994, Athena Design introduced Mesa for OS/2. This second-generation product was called the best OS/2 spreadsheet by InfoWorld. Mesa for OS/2 included the same advanced object technology and real-time data feeds as Mesa for NextStep. Mesa for OS/2 and its advanced objects are used by Sabre Decision Technologies for an advanced decision support system. In 1996, Athena Design licensed Mesa for OS/2 to Sundial Systems. Sundial Systems continues to upgrade and support Mesa for OS/2. Athena Design licensed Mesa for NextStep to P&L Systems. P&L Systems continues to upgrade and support Mesa for NextStep. In 1997, Athena Design identified Java as a powerful trend in object computing. Athena Design examined the marketplace and determined that there was no current technology that enabled users to collaborate remotely on spreadsheets in real-time. In April, 1997, Athena Design began development of the Integer real-time collaborative spreadsheet server. In March 1998, Athena Design shipped version 1.0 of Integer, the world's first and most powerful real-time collaborative spreadsheet server. In October 1998, Athena
Design shipped version 2.0 of Integer, which included many
features required by Athena Design's growing list of financial services customers. These features include:
